After seeing these pictures, you will not doubt why some of us keep going back to the Toccoa. It's one of the most beautiful rivers in the Southeast. Unfortunately the pristine quality of the river is being systematically ruined by development. It's destroying the very thing the home buyers come for. Go see it before it gets much worse.

Toccoa River: Deep Hole to Dial
Georgia
April 6, 2008

Artie Green checks out the launch at Deep Hole.

Pat Carver and Carolyn Rand happy at the launch.

The magnificent suspension bridge for the Benton McKaye hiking trail over the Toccoa. They couldn't have picked a more beautiful spot.

Time to take out for lunch.

There was a lot of wood in the river below the bridge but the right side of the river is clear.

More wood in the bridge rapid. That's a nice little rapid by the way.

This fisherman finally fell in after stumbling around on the rocks and in the streambed for a while. You could see it coming:-)

This picture pretty much shows why we keep going back to the Toccoa. It's nearly perfect. If only we could stop any more development from encroaching. Few people even know what is being lost.

Sometimes we are humbled by the beauty of nature. This photo explains a lot of the motivation for me to paddle.

Green, green, green is the Upper Toccoa.

Stacy Stone digging in.

Stacy Stone, Artie Green, and Lois Newton.

The TVCC floating floatilla. Left to right Artie Green, Stacy Stone, and Lois Newton.

Carolyn Rand from a distance.

Carolyn seems to have trouble with dry tops.

Looking back at the lonely takeout. I will be back.

Multiple choice:
Who's winning?
a. Carolyn
b. Lois
c. The drytop.
d. b and c

The correct answer is d. Lois and the dry top are strangling Carolyn.
