Due to the continuing drought, very few streams were running, but on this beautiful Sunday, Steve Smyth and I caught the Little Tennessee above 500 cfs. As a bonus, the lake was low enough that there were a few rapids available that are normally submerged.

Little Tennessee River
January 27, 2008
North Carolina

I didn't paddle for exactly 26 days before this trip, and that's a long time for me. What a relief it was to be back on the water, and on such a beautiful day! I could kick myself for forgetting to take pictures at the Narrows.

The scene at the put-in.

Deep blue sky reflected on the water. It's hard to be unhappy on a day like this.

There was a bit of leftover snow on the banks of the river.

Typical class I shoals on the Little Tennesee.

This is what it's all about.

It was Wave Sport day on the river. Here is Steve's EZ.

The suspension bridge is the landmark that warns you of the approach to the Narrows.
